The South African Institute of International Affairs published in September 2021 a paper titled "Mapping the Future of Africa-China Relations: Insights from West Africa" by Folashade Soule.
This paper uses the occasion of the FOCAC summit this fall in Senegal to take the temperature of the China-West Africa relationship. It draws on interviews with a broad range of West African diplomats, policymakers, and business people to map the region's priorities in these interactions.
