The Marine Corps University hosted, as part of the Emerald Express Strategic Symposium Series, a day-long conference in National Harbor, Md., on 26 April, 2011 titled “Al-Qaida after Ten Years of War.” I gave a presentation on al-Qaida in East Africa and the Horn. There were about 350 persons in the audience, representing the uniformed services, civilians in government, the private sector and universities.
The conference turned out to be especially timely as it occurred only days before the death of Osama bin Laden.
