State Building in Somaliland and Somalia
The Africa Research Institute, a London-based think tank, published in December 2014 a study titled "Statebuilding in the Somali Horn: Compromise, Competition, and Representation" by Michael Walls, University College London. The author concludes that Somaliland offers a great many useful lessons about how to build a Somali nation state. The system is imperfect, but it has played a key role in securing broad, through qualified, acceptance of state institutions.
