Chinese Foreign Minister Visits Kenya

The African Executive published in its 11-18 February 2015 edition a commentary titled "China Foreign Minister's Visit to Kenya: An Analysis" by Bob Wekesa, a PhD candidate at Communication University of China.  Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Kenya in January.

The author argues that high level Chinese visits to Kenya are in the same category as those to South Africa, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Egypt.  China sees Kenya as a robust African ally as Kenya continues to experience political and economic differences with the West.  China was also helpful when President Uhuru Kenyatta was under indictment by the International Criminal Court.  Finally, China has designated Mombasa as the terminus for its Maritime Silk Road strategy.
