Foreign Affairs published on 23 April 2015 an article titled "China Comes to Djibouti" by John Lee, Hudson Institute. He notes that Djibouti and China signed a security and defense agreement in 2014. More recently a Chinese company purchased a large stake in the port of Djibouti and China is financing and a Chinese company has been awarded the contract to improve the port.
