Somalia's Next Parliament

The Mogadishu-based The Heritage Institute for Policy Studies published in December 2015 a study titled "Selection of the Next Somalia Parliament: The Citizens' View."  The study found that 79 percent of Somalis surveyed agreed with the government's announcement that a one-person, one-vote election is not currently feasible in Somalia due primarily to insecurity and resistance from political leaders.  Some 51 percent of respondents favored either traditional elders or clan constituencies as the preferred selection alternative.
