The Centre for Chinese Studies (CCS) at Stellenbosch University published on 19 September 2016 an analysis titled "The Internationalisation of Renminbi in an African Context" by Yi Ren Thng, CCS visiting scholar.
The author noted that African firms stand to gain from greater Renminbi usage for trade settlement of receipts and payments with their Chinese counterparts. At the same time, he noted that complications concerning additional usage of the Renminbi may restrict it to trade settlement.
