Let China Fail in Africa

The National Interest published on 29 January 2019 a commentary titled "Let China Fail in Africa" by Wilson VornDick, a China analyst and commander in the Navy Reserve.

The author argues that China's economic reach in Africa is teetering on overreach. China may not produce all that is promised. China's influence comes at a cost and it may be stretching its economic largesse beyond its own capacity, jeopardizing its financial stability both at home and abroad. The United States should consider simply letting China financially fail in Africa. This does not mean that the United States withdraws from Africa, rather it should continue to maintain its key African relationships and interests. There may even be opportunities to work with China where it is beneficial for shared American and African interests.
