The Diplomat published on 25 February 2019 an analysis titled "China's Rise in the Middle East: Beyond Economics" by Nicholas Lyall, an Amman-based researcher.
The author looks at China's recent engagement in the Middle East, North Africa and the Horn of Africa and concludes that it is moving away from its traditional position of disengagement on security issues and increasingly willing to take a position of leadership.
