China Goes on Offense in Somaliland

The Horn Diplomat posted on 7 August 2020 a story titled "Somaliland President Meets with High-level Delegation from China."

Somaliland and Taiwan exchanged "representative offices" on 1 July 2020.  This prompted a visit to Hargeisa by a senior Chinese delegation and China's ambassador to Somalia to discuss trade and development, obviously intended to undo the Taiwan-Somaliland relationship.

Focus Taiwan reported on 9 August 2020 that Somaliland's new representative in Taiwan, Mohamed Omar Hagi Mohamoud, arrived in Taipei on 7 August to take up his position.  He commented in a meeting with Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu that "sovereignty and friendship aren't for sale."
