China's Influence in Africa Over the Next Decade

African Business magazine published on 16 November 2020 a commentary titled "Chinese Influence Is Assured--How Should Africa Respond?" by Gyude Moore, Center for Global Development.

The author argues that the coming decade will see a consolidation of China's position in Africa as the dominant external actor.  Beyond stern rhetoric and speeches, the US will not offer an alternative in Africa.  Europe will not compete with China.  This will leave China the main actor.  But an Africa completely dependent on China is not necessarily an optimal outcome for Africa.
