Update on Chinese Contracts in Africa

The China Africa Research Initiative recently posted an update titled "Data: Chinese Contracts in Africa."

In 2019, the gross annual revenues of Chinese companies' engineering and construction projects in Africa totaled $46 billion, a 6 percent decrease from 2018.  The top five countries were Algeria, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, and Angola.  These five countries accounted for 46 percent of all revenue in 2019, and Algeria alone accounted for 14 percent.  This is the fourth consecutive year that gross annual revenues of Chinese companies' construction projects in Africa have declined.
