Arab Barometer, a nonpartisan research network in the Middle East and North Africa, posted on 12 January 2021 the results of a public opinion survey titled "U.S. and China's Competition Extends to MENA" by Michael Robbins, director of Arab Barometer.
The survey, which was conducted before the American presidential election, included Algeria, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia. It found that respondents in all four countries had a more favorable view of China than the US. All four countries had more concern about the potential negative impact of American economic power on their national interests, although the difference was not significant in Morocco. By wide margins, the survey concluded the foreign policy of Xi Jinping was better for their country than the foreign policy of Donald Trump. Public opinion in all four countries believed the policies of a Biden administration would be better for them than the policies of a Trump administration.
