Foreign Policy published on 27 August 2021 an article titled "U.N. Officials Downplayed Sexual Violence in Ethiopia in Leaked Call" by Robbie Gramer and Colum Lynch.
In a leaked phone conversation in March 2021, UN officials on the ground in Ethiopia described as "media hype" some of the reports of sexual violence in Tigray Region. Other UN officials insisted many of the sexual violence reports accurately reflected the situation and urged that one leaked phone call did not reduce the importance of the problem.
