Africa's Three Members of UN Security Council Critical of Russian Actions in Ukraine

The United Nations published on 23 February 2022 a summary of remarks by UN Security Council members on Russia's declaration of independent republics in the Eastern Ukraine

Africa currently has three non-permanent members of the UN Security Council--Kenya, Ghana, and Gabon.  All three representatives made comments on the decision by Russia to declare independent republics in the eastern Ukraine.  The African comments took place before Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Comments by the Kenyan representative were posted on this blog on 23 February below.  The representative from Ghana expressed "regret" over Russia's decision to recognize the republics and "concern" over Russia's "hybrid warfare."  The representative of Gabon said his country "fears an imminent invasion of Ukraine" and emphasized the importance of recognizing "sovereignty and territorial integrity of every State."
