Maritime Defence Monitor published in June 2022 an analysis titled "Indian Ocean Rivalries: China and India in the Indian Ocean" by Peter Layton, Griffith Asia Institute.
The author concluded that PLA Navy activities in the Indian Ocean are currently meagre but, with the PLAN now the world's largest navy and having significant experience in the area, it possesses considerable ability to surge. India has taken notice.
