Chatham House published on 3 August 2022 a commentary titled "Beijing Briefings: Is the Belt and Road Going Nowhere?" by Yu Jie.
The author notes that China has put the brakes on its infrastructure spending spree in the Global South as a result of its domestic economic slowdown. To go forward, China must remain open to what others want from Beijing's development initiatives and infrastructure financing.
