Lingering uncertainties about their relationships with China have become more magnified for many African countries recently. Amid a global economic crunch driven partly by a slowdown in China, a recalibration of Beijing's role in Africa and deepening tensions with the West are raising questions in many countries about the direction relations will take in the next couple of years. African governments worry that their main economic partner may be less willing to dole out funds and projects than it once was.
