Foreign Affairs published on 1 May 2023 a commentary titled "Sudan's Generals Are Dragging the Country Toward Disaster" by Mai Hassan, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Ahmed Kodouda, former aid worker in Sudan.
The authors argue that Sudan is sliding towards a civil war that can only be prevented if Western and regional powers unite with Sudanese civil society to push for a permanent ceasefire and eventually a civilian-led transition to democracy.
