Ethnic Minorities from Northern Ethiopia Afraid to Return from Sudan

 The New Humanitarian published on 16 February 2023 an article titled "Ethiopian Minorities Remain Fearful Despite Peace Deal" by Claire Wilmot, London School of Economics.

Minority Kunama, Irob, Qemant, and Agew from northern Ethiopia who became refugees in Sudan are still fearful about returning to their homes.  The article also sheds light on the broader concerns of these small ethnic groups.

 GQ magazine published on 7 August 2021 an article titled "The Human Cost of the Tigray Conflict: 'We Are in Constant Fear'" by Sean Williams.

Although written nearly two months ago, the article provides some historical context that is often ignored in stories about the ongoing conflict in Tigray Region.

Let the Press Tell Us What Is Happening in Ethiopia's Tigray Region

 Ethiopia Insight posted on 19 February 2021 a commentary titled "Catastrophe Stalks Tigray, Again" by Jan Nyssen, Ghent University. 

The government of Ethiopia says the situation in Tigray Region is under control; others say it is out of control except for Mekelle.  There is an easy solution to resolving this conflicting information.  Let the international and domestic press into the region.

Ethiopia-Eritrea Border Dispute and the Irob People

The Irob Global Diaspora, which speaks for the Irob people who live along the Ethiopia-Eritrea border, recently posted a statement titled "The Right to Exist."

While the Irob disapora supports the recent initiative by Ethiopia to resolve the border dispute with Eritrea, it urges that both governments take into account the concerns of the Irob people who live along the border and would be most directly affected by any transfer of land from one country to another.

Ethiopia's Offer To Settle Border Conflict with Eritrea Encounters Local Opposition

The Ethiopia Observer published on 11 June 2018 an article titled "Irob Protests in Tigray Display Local Obstacles to Implementing Eritrean Peace Deal" by Arefaynie Fantahun.

The author explains that the Irob people who live along the Ethiopia-Eritrea border in the vicinity of Badme and who would be most affected by the transfer of Badme from Ethiopia to Eritrea find the announcement by Ethiopia unwelcome.
