Global Terrorism Index 2018

The Institute for Economics and Peace, a non-profit think tank with headquarters in Sydney, Australia, published in November the sixth edition of the "Global Terrorism Index 2018."

The Global Terrorism Index is a comprehensive study analyzing the global impact of terrorism; it evaluated 138 countries in 2018. It looks at trends, emerging hotspots, and patterns in recruitment.

In 2018, the impact of terrorism was deemed highest for the following ten countries in order of impact: Iraq, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Syria, Pakistan, Somalia, India, Yemen, Egypt, and the Philippines. The United States ranked number 20. African countries facing the least impact and with a zero score were Togo, Gambia, Eswatini, Namibia, Mauritius, Mauritania, Eritrea, Equatorial Guinea, Botswana, Benin, and Guinea-Bissau.
