China Briefing posted on 1 November 2016 an item titled "Chasing China's Outbound Direct Investment" by Chris Devonshire-Ellis, chairman of Dezan Shira & Associates in Asia.
The short analysis looks at China's outward direct investment in 2015. According to China's National Statistics Bureau, outward direct investment (ODI) flows in 2015 totaled $207 billion in terms of contractual value, with $118 billion being actualized. Of this amount, only $3 billion went to Africa, the same amount as went to Australia. More than half went to Hong Kong. In terms of actualized ODI, less than 3 percent of China's ODI went to Africa.
