China and Russia in African Peace Operations

The Washington-based Stimson Center published in March 2017 a study titled "Nontraditional Actors: China and Russia in African Peace Operations" by Elor Nkereuwem.

The report analyzes how China and Russia have engaged with peace operations in Africa. It examines how they have responded to controversial UN missions in Sudan, South Sudan, Burundi, Mali, and Libya. It uses meeting transcripts of UN resolution deliberations and debates since 1989, as well as interviews with stakeholders, to characterize how both nations have behaved in the past, with a view to understanding how they may engage on peace operations in the future.
