Africa, China, and Industrialization

The Center for Global Development posted on 21 March 2019 a commentary titled "Africa's Unsung 'Industrial Revolution'" by Bright Simons, president of mPedigree.

The author notes that most manufacturing leaving China has gone to Asian countries such as Vietnam and the Philippines and not to Africa. On the other hand, Chinese small and medium size enterprises are acquiring country-specific expertise and tailoring solutions for individual African countries complete with logistics, training, and support packages. Examples are reassembled knockdown luxury cars in Ghana, cutting-edge brick kilns in Uganda, and milk-vending in Kenya.
