The India-based Observer Research Foundation published on 7 October 2020 an analysis titled "China's Growing Security Activism in Africa" by Abhishek Mishra.
The author attributes China's growing security presence in Africa to its commercial interests and the fact that it helps professionalize its military, improves the PLA's operational readiness and military access, safeguards its investments, and ensures the safety of Chinese citizens in Africa.
