Chinese Security Contractors in Africa

The Carnegie-Tsinghua Center for Global Policy published on 8 October 2020 an article titled "Chinese Security Contractors in Africa" by Paul Nantulya, Africa Center for Strategic Studies at the National Defense University in Washington.

Beijing is reluctant to deploy its military forces in Africa (Djibouti excepted) due to concerns about its image and other political and geopolitical considerations.  But it is concerned about protecting its interests and personnel in Africa.  Consequently, it is turning increasingly to private security companies, including Chinese companies, to provide this protection.
