Munich Security Conference Report Finds African Dissatisfaction with West But Reluctance to Replace It with Russia and China

 The Voice of America published on 14 February 2023 an article titled "Report: Africa Relations with China, Russia Do Not Imply Support for New World Order" by Mohammed Yusuf. 

The article, which draws on the Munich Security Report, an independent annual forum focused on international security, concludes that African countries are dissatisfied with the international system led by the West but are not inclined to replace it with one led by Russia and China, especially following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The Munich Security Report published in February 2023 stated on page 23 that "dissatisfaction with the West in key countries in the 'Global South' does not translate into a desire to see China and Russia exercise more influence over the future international order. . . . Alienation from the existing international order and its main guardians does not seem to equate to general support for autocratic revisionism."

Putin's War Has Lessons for Africa

 Nigeria's The Nation published on 3 March 2022 a commentary titled "Three Lessons for Africa from the Ukraine-Russia Crisis" by David Monda, City University of New York.

First, the Ukraine crisis has shown Africa that Russia still has designs of reestablishing its colonial style domination of its former republics and is not a benign middleman pursuing altruistic goals in Africa.  Second, the war in Ukraine has shown Africa that the post-9/11 world order is a loose and tenuous multi-polarity.  Third, Russia's actions in Ukraine illustrate to Africa that major power competition results in weak states suffering.
