South Sudan after Dismissal of Government
South Sudan President Salva Kiir dissolved the entire cabinet on the second anniversary of the country's independence. He named new cabinet ministers on 31 July 2013, but has not yet named a new vice president. In a 29 July 2013 commentary titled "South Sudan: Democratization by Dismissal?", Ahmed Soliman, research assistant for the Africa program at Chatham House in London, offered a somber analysis of South Sudan's future. He concluded that "inadequate progress in development, ongoing insurgencies and concerns about governance and military influence have increased fears of state failure."
