Egypt-China Economic Relations

UAE online media portal Zawya posted on 8 September 2025 an article titled "Mapping Egypt's Economic Partnership with China" by Amina Hussein.

In FY 2023/24 Chinese foreign direct investment in Egypt totaled $630 million, down 34 percent from $957 million the previous year.  At the end of 2024, Egypt's debt to China reached $8.6 billion or 5.6 percent of the country's total debt.  Total trade in 2024 reached $15.9 billion, up from $13.7 billion in 2023.  But Egypt's imports from China accounted for $15.5 billion while exports to China accounted for only $400 million, resulting in a huge trade deficit.
