Somali Government Officials: Isolated with Dual Citizenship and Foreign Passports

 African Arguments published on 11 August 2026 a commentary titled "Somalia: A Government with One Foot Out the Door" by Ismail Abukar, a human rights advocate based in Mogadishu.  

A significant percentage of Somali officials are effectively ghost workers who do not come to their offices.  Many have foreign passports and dual citizenship.  At the same time, remittances from the diaspora have kept Somalia solvent.

Evacuation of Americans from Sudan

 The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal published on 1 May 2023 a commentary titled "Nagy: When U.S. Embassies Have to Evacuate, Being Prepared for 'Worst-case' Scenarios" by Tibor Nagy, former Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs.

The author explains the process for evacuating U.S. diplomatic personnel from difficult situations, in this case Sudan, and the added challenge of assisting private U.S. citizens and dual nationals.

Account of US and Other International Evacuations from Sudan

 The New York Times published on 23 April 2023 an article titled "U.S. Pulls Diplomats from Sudan, and an Exodus Begins" by Declan Walsh, Charlie Savage, and Eric Schmitt.

An exodus of foreign nationals from Sudan is underway as some Sudanese blame international diplomats for allowing the crisis to occur.  The article provides details on the evacuation of American diplomats from Khartoum.
