The White House on 9 September 2022 issued an executive order in the name of President Joseph Biden that extends for one year the national emergency with respect to Ethiopia. The executive order concludes that the situation in northern Ethiopia "continues to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States."
