The Diplomat published on 25 December 2013 a commentary titled "China's South Sudan Dilemma" by Shannon Tiezzi. The author concluded that "as China becomes more globalized, Beijing may be forced to take a more active role to safeguard the lives of its citizens and Chinese business interests. In the coming years, Beijing might have to rethink its foreign policy calculus, especially how it interprets 'non-interference'."
