African Elections and Russia-Africa Relations
The Washington-based Institute for Defense Analyses' Africa Watch of 9 July 2015 has two useful commentaries. The first is titled "What Is The Purpose of Non-Competitive Elections in Semi-Authoritarian Countries?" by Stephanie M. Burchard. It looks at recent elections in Ethiopia and Burundi. The second is titled "Russia and Africa--Measured Re-Engagement" by George F. Ward, which describes Russia's post-Cold War re-engagement with Africa as modest.
