Averting War Between Somaliland and Puntland

The International Crisis Group (ICG) published on 27 June 2018 an analysis titled "Averting War in Northern Somalia."

The ICG argues that Puntland and Somaliland are sliding toward a protracted conflict with enormously destabilizing consequences for all of Somalia. The ICG urges both sides to step back, dial down their rhetoric and allow for UN-led mediation. The immediate priority should be to de-escalate the current tension and then focus on a long-term solution to the issue of Sool and Sanaag regions.
