The South African Institute of International Affairs published in October 2019 a study titled "Inside the Russia-Africa Matryoshka: Summitry, Geopolitics and Resources" by Elizabeth Sidiropolous and Chris Alden.
The paper analyses Russia's re-engagement with Africa in the context of the evolution of Russian foreign policy since the end of the Cold War, arguing that its turn to Africa is part of a multi-vector approach that was first articulated 20 years ago.
