The Institute for Security Studies published on 4 April 2022 an analysis titled "Could Russia's War in Ukraine Derail Africa's Global Partnerships?" by Liesl Louw-Vaudran.
Almost half of the member states of the African Union abstained or did not cast ballots on UN General Assembly resolutions that condemned Russia for invading Ukraine. This development could influence relations between individual African states and Western countries. It may impact aid and development assistance to African states and organizations that openly support Russia.
