There are practical reasons why Burkina Faso will not hire Russia's mercenary Wagner Group to confront its security challenges and why Wagner prefers to avoid large-scale deployment there. The war in Ukraine is beginning to monopolize Wagner's focus and resources. Burkina Faso is not convinced Wagner has been successful in neighboring Mali and may prefer to avoid the controversy of hiring it anyway.
