India's Observer Research Foundation published on 25 January 2024 a commentary titled "The Changing Face of Ethiopia" by Gurjit Singh, former Indian ambassador to Ethiopia.
The author noted that joining BRICS has raised Ethiopia's stature from being a poor country with an underperforming economy and internal strife. It has also allowed Ethiopia to look for additional support from Russia and China. Membership has not, however, removed its economic problems or internal strife.
