Assistant Secretary Carson Looks Back on US Africa Policy

He highlighted the progress made in Somalia and South Sudan. He also discussed positive policy developments in Nigeria, Kenya, Senegal, Guinea, Niger, Mauritania, Cote d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone and Uganda. He noted that the United States has put about $6 billion into Africa through the Millennium Challenge Corporation and urged Congress to renew the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act before it expires in 2015. He laid out U.S. policy in Mali and expressed concern over the human rights situation in Equatorial Guinea.
