South Africa's Perceptions of China's Belt and Road Initiative

 South Africa's Institute for Global Dialogue published in November 2023 a policy brief titled "South Africa's Perceptions of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)."

The study concludes that the South African government has not been able to create its own strategy for how it wants to engage the BRI based on strengthening the bilateral engagement with China, defining a coherent communication engagement, and capacity to develop an implementation framework on BRI projects.  

African Perceptions of the China Development Model

Megatrends Afrika published in October 2023 a paper titled "What Explains African Perceptions of China as a Model of Development?" by Oscar M. Otele, University of Nairobi. 

Using Afrobarometer survey data, this paper utilizes multivariate logit models to account for the differences in perceptions among countries.  The paper establishes that education, gender, the rural-urban divide, and respondent's perceptions of the influence of China's economic activities on the country's economy accounted for the differences.

Refuting the Racist Chinese Narrative

The China Policy Institute at the University of Nottingham published on 8 September 2016 a commentary titled "Refuting the Racist Chinese Narrative" by Barry Sautman, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Yan Hairong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

While the authors make some valid points, they give the impression that they doth protest too much.
