Quartz Africa published on 3 September 2018 an article titled "Russia Is the Latest World Power Eyeing the Horn of Africa" by Abdi Latif Dahir.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced plans to establish a "logistics center" at an unnamed port in Eritrea to boost bilateral trade in infrastructural investment between the two nations. This begs the question: why do you need a "logistics center" to boost trade and investment?
Radio Free Europe covered the same story in a piece titled "Russia in Talks with Eritrea To Set Up 'Logistics Center' on Read Sea Coast."
This article offers additional reasons for establishing a "logistics center" but makes no explicit reference to military purposes. Hmmm???
