The Council on Foreign Relations blog posted on 27 January 2023 a commentary titled "Staying Neutral on Ukraine Easier Said than Done for African States" by Alexandra Dent.
The author focuses on the role of the Russian mercenary organization known as the Wagner Group and its role in Africa and the Ukraine war. At least two Africans were recruited from Russian jails and sent to the Ukraine front where they were killed and their bodies subsequently repatriated to Zambia and Tanzania.
