Deutsch Welle published on 2 November 2026 an article titled "Uganda Begins Withdrawing Troops from Somalia after Two Decades" by Natalie Muller.
Uganda was the first country to send troops to Somalia as part of an African Union peacekeeping force set up in 2007 to support the Somali government's campaign against al-Shabab Islamist militants. Uganda has now begun to pull its 6,500 forces out of Somalia.
