Facebook and Chinese Company Cooperate on African Subsea Internet Cable

 Reuters published on 16 August 2021 an article titled "Facebook, Telcos to Extend Subsea Cable to Four Countries."

Facebook and the 2Africa consortium of companies from Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and China Mobile International are adding countries in Africa to the world's largest subsea internet cable project.

China Mobile and Facebook To Build Submarine Cable Around Africa

Citizen Digital posted on 18 May 2020 an article titled "China Mobile, Facebook in Joint Project to Build 2Africa Submarine Cable."

China Mobile International, Facebook, MTN GlobalConnect, Orange, Telecom Egypt, Vodafone, and WIOCC will partner to build 2Africa, the most comprehensive subsea cable to serve Africa and the Middle East.  With a length of 23,000 miles, the cable will have 21 landings in  16 countries in Africa. 

This collaboration involving an American and Chinese company comes at a low point in recent China-United States official relations.
