UN Deputy Secretary General Upbeat about Peace in Ethiopia

 UN News published on 9 February 2022 an article titled "Ethiopia in 'Much Better Place' to Resolve Tigray Conflict: Mohammed."

UN Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohmmed recently finished a 5-day trip to Ethiopia where she visited Tigray, Amhara, Somali, and Afar regions.  She emphasized the UN Secretary General's call for an end to conflict and concluded there is "less hostility than there was a few months ago."

Ethiopia: Africa's Only Sitting Female President

The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) published on 29 October 2018 a commentary titled "Ethiopia's New President Prioritises Peace and Democracy" by Tsion Tadesse Abebe and Selam Tadesse, both with ISS.

Sahle-Work Zewde is Africa's only sitting female president. While largely a ceremonial position (Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed holds the key position), combined with a cabinet that is 50 percent female, Ethiopia is making a statement that it is taking gender equality seriously.
