The New York Times published on 25 February 2022 an article titled "In North Africa, Ukraine War Strains Economies Weakened by Pandemic" by Vivian Yee and Aida Alami.
The countries of North Africa, already weakened by COVID-19, traditionally get much of their wheat from Russia and Ukraine. Putin's war has resulted in less wheat available and more expensive wheat, which is causing higher bread prices. This contributes to political instability in North Africa.
