The Washington Post published on 18 August 2022 an article titled "In Ukraine, a Russian Mercenary Group Steps Out of the Shadows" by Mary Ilyushina.
A shadowy Russian mercenary organization, the Wagner Group, has been active in recent years in the Central African Republic, Sudan, Libya, Mali, and Mozambique. It has significantly raised its profile by supporting the Russian army's invasion of Ukraine. It has also stepped up its recruitment campaign and now seeks men ages 24 to 50 from any country "except E.U., NATO and Ukraine." Convicts are welcome to apply unless they have been charged with terrorism, rape, or drug smuggling.
