Sudan's Collapse and the Demise of Peacemaking

The International Crisis Group posted on 10 November 2023 a 48 minute podcast titled "Sudan's Collapse and the Demise of Peacemaking" with Shewit Woldemichael and Alan Boswell.

The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) is consolidating its gains in Darfur and driving into Kordofan.  The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) is being overrun in Darfur, although some local militia continue to oppose the RSF.  Increasingly, the RSF is gaining control in the Khartoum capital region.  Sudan has effectively collapsed and is being divided into two parts.  The SAF still controls eastern Sudan and Port Sudan.  The RSF seems to be trying to dominate Sudan or, at a minimum, control western Sudan.

Peace talks in Saudi Arabia are focused on a humanitarian cease fire. They are not intended at this point to solve political differences in Sudan.
