The Hindustan Times published on 4 January 2024 an article titled "Houthi Attacks in Red Sea 'Spook' Putin's Ally China. Israel, NATO Nations Fume at Iran."
China and Russia joined other members of the UN Security Council in calling for an end to attacks on vessels transiting the Red Sea but refused to join the US, UK, and France in singling out the role of the Houthis and their enablers in Iran for these attacks. The article also contains a five-minute video of responses by UN Security Council members to the Houthi attacks.
The private Security Council Report published on 3 January 2024 a more detailed analysis titled "Houthi Red Sea Attacks: Briefing and Consultations."
It states that UN Security Council members could not agree on language concerning the Red Sea crisis amid concerns raised by China and Russia which, while reiterating their concerns over the threat posed to freedom of navigation, apparently contended that the UNSC presidential statement was unnecessary given the 1 December press statement that strongly condemned the Houthi attacks and contained other similar messaging.
