Amhara militias known as Fano stepped up their attacks in Wollo in eastern Amhara Region from August through October. The Ethiopian National Defense Forces responded in kind. Fano was also more active in Gondar. The federal government worries there may be an alignment of Fano, Eritrea, and Oromo and Tigrayan ethno-nationalist forces.
